Research
Original research on UK small and mid-size business AI adoption. Where the public data stops, we run our own studies.
Why we publish research
Most reports on AI in UK businesses are survey-driven and enterprise-focused. That leaves the 2M UK SMEs largely invisible. We publish original, quantitative work on where UK SMEs actually are — tooling, spend, bottlenecks, and the honest gap between pilot and production — so our writing sits on our own numbers, not someone else's.
Annual study: State of AI adoption in UK SMEs
Each year we publish a comprehensive study drawn from UK SME interviews, CRM-integrations telemetry, and public filings. It covers tooling, spend, bottlenecks, and measurable outcomes. The methodology and raw aggregates are published alongside the report.
2026 edition: In preparation. Fieldwork begins Q2. If you run a 20-200 person UK business and want to be part of the sample, get in touch.
Methodology
Interviews with founders and operations leads at 60+ UK SMEs across finance, logistics, B2B services, retail, and manufacturing. Triangulated with Companies House filings, vendor-disclosed usage data (where permitted), and Ofsted / HMRC reference data. We publish full methodology and anonymised aggregates. Named quotes only with explicit consent.
Participate
We pay for time. A 30-minute interview covers an annual subscription to the study once it publishes, and we send you a pre-release draft. No sales pitch — this is a research conversation, not a Diagnostic call.
