This changed the fundamental architecture of a search results page. Gemini 3 doesn't just retrieve links. It reasons through the query. If a procurement director searches for "Xero inventory integration", Gemini 3 creates a fan-out. It generates distinct branches for "budget options", "multi-warehouse setups", and "API limitations".
Your landing page might be the best resource on the internet for that topic. It doesn't matter. Gemini extracts your key points, rewrites them into a tailored summary, and serves them directly to the user right there on the search page.
The structural problem here is that B2B buyers are busy. If the AI gives them the exact limitations of a Xero integration in the search interface, they have no incentive to click through to your site. They get the value immediately. You get the impression, but no traffic lands on your domain.
This affects every SME relying on informational content to drive top-of-funnel leads. It persists because Google's priority is keeping users on Google, not sending them to your HubSpot form. End of.

When you format your proprietary insights into neat, generic question-and-answer blocks, you are just handing over your expertise on a silver platter.

Here is what actually happens when you build a system to do this.
Instead of writing generic guides, you use your own operational data. Let's say you sell logistics software. You have thousands of anonymised data points on delivery delays across the UK. You build an automated pipeline to turn that raw data into a live, proprietary index.

If you don't have clean, proprietary data, do not build this. Stick to writing strong, opinionated essays that humans actually want to read.

The shift to Gemini 3 requires you to abandon traditional search metrics entirely, and you can audit your current exposure by answering three questions. You can either adapt your systems, or watch your organic traffic slowly bleed out.
- Look at your top five highest-traffic blog posts from last year. If an AI summarises the core takeaway in two sentences, is there any remaining reason for a buyer to click through to your site?
- What unique, anonymised operational data does your business generate every week that your competitors cannot access, and how hard would it be to publish it?
- Are you currently paying an agency or a freelancer to write generic, SEO-optimised content that sounds exactly like the baseline training data of a standard language model?
